OVERVIEW PETROLEUM SYSTEM OF TALIABU-MANGOLE SYNRIFT IN SULA SUBBASIN

Abstract
Taliabu-Mangole synrift is identified as synrift basin which was formed during
Triassic-Jurassic. As same as common type basin in Indonesia, the basin is
potential to deposit syn-rift sediment that potentially to generate hydrocarbon. Gas
seepages, oil odor and formation water (hotwater spring) as evidence which
indicated that the hydrocarbon was mature and had been migrated.
Integrating of surface and subsurface data is method to define all element of
petroleum system. Spot mapping along Taliabu-Mangole and Sulabesi islands was
conducted to review element of petroleum system from outcrop. Seismic
interpretation and evaluation of two well is conducted to gathering petroleum
system information in subsurface.
Play type analysis interpreted that Buya Shale and Bobong Coal are potential to be
source rock and mature. Study result indicated that the source rock is dominantly
gas prone. Lateral and vertical migration is interpreted occurred and postulated to
occurrence gas seepages and hotwater spring occurrence on the surface. Bobong
sand is potential to be reservoir and fracture basement is possible to be secondary
reservoir. Buya Shale is also interpreted as regional seal that covers eastern part

Wave-Dominated Deltas

An open ocean basin accepts more water input, which means there is potential for greater wave energy, making wave-dominated deltas more likely. High wave interference causes conflicted or deflected river mouths. There is less influence from fluvial sources. In wave-dominated delta regions, breaking waves cause immediate mixing of fresh and salt water. Typically, the fresh water flow velocity decelerates rapidly. A bar may form in the immediate vicinity of the distributarymouth, often supplemented by landward migrating swash bars. The wave action reworks the sediment, making it much sandier than other types of deltas, coarsening upward. Sediment is delivered by the river and is transported along the coast. The sediment is then deposited as beaches and bars and the development of distributaries is limited
